Life in the Annex

In 1942 there were multiple war crimes being committed from Nazi Germans directed towards jewish. Nazi Germans wanted to kill even remotely jewish people. They were forced to hide in an Annex and there is a little girl who wrote a diary, named Anne Frank.

Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who lived in Frankfurt who had to flee after the rise of the Nazi Germany. She was known for her descriptive diary named “Kitty” where she wrote about her life as a Jewish on the run from Nazi soldiers.

Her life in the annex was very dark, as she was enclosed by walls and strict rules, could almost never leave the annex due to the roaming Nazi just around, and bounty hunters. Guarding everywhere. They couldn’t usually use water due to the loudness.

She stayed in the annex for about two years. Until an accidental search had discovered the annex leading to Nazi grabbing all of the Jewish hidden in the annex. She then died of ‘typhus’ that was a bacterial disease that came from the 2 years at the annex. No shower, and multiple people, plus the effects of concentration camps. The story of Anne is a terrible story that reminds us of how much Nazi had affected the world, and Jewish people

We are reading the book ‘Diary of Anne Frank’. Mrs Anderson created a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what life would have been like in the annex, what we felt and why we felt that way.

I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me makes word understandable and easy to read.

Wings in the Wind

The sun dipped behind the rolling hills, giving way to the slow, silver rise of the moon. Tonight was the night of my very first ever flight.  Shivering fluttered in my chest like trapped wings. A sudden breeze pushed at my back, but I held fast, my Talons digging deep into the Big wide wood of the bark. All around me, the forest danced in the breeze, but my vision remained sharp; my wide, golden eyes pierced the shadows. From the darkness, the calls of the others drifted toward me, an invitation to finally claim the sky. Now I am ready to fly.

One freezing night, I felt nervous and shaky. My legs wobbled as the branches moved because tonight was my very first flight. My fluffy feathers kept me warm, but my heart raced when I looked down at the dark ground far below.

It was a windy and cold night, and the sun had just gone down. It was time for a young owl to fly for the very first time. Even though his big, round eyes could see perfectly in the dark, he felt very scared. The wind was pushing him, and he was worried that if he let go of his long wide branch, he might fall instead of flying.

Because flying is how owls find food and move around! His friends were already zooming through the air, calling out to him to join the fun. He was stuck between wanting to stay safe on his tree and wanting to be brave like the other owls. He had to decide if he was going to listen to his fear or listen to his wings.

I knew I had to fly because my mother said I was big and strong enough. I solved my problem by finally taking that first leap into the air. I learned that I could be brave by overcoming my fears.

Mrs Anderson read us the book ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. We talked about the narrators point of view and used a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what the story might look like when told in the first person.

I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me write more advanced and effectient.\

LI: To use Adobe Express to create the setting of a recount

Today we read a recount and talked about the structure, the words in the story and the author’s purpose. This recount was about a boy who was learning to windsurf. He wasn’t very good but his dog was. I think the author wrote this to entertain the reader because it was super funny. After we did this we got to use Adobe Express to make the setting of the story. I had super fun making this drawing because I had to think about the words I used and sometimes they were wrong so I had to change them. My picture shows Buddy the dog on the windsurfer and the boy in the water because he had fallen off the windsurfer.

Limerick Poem

This week for writing we have been doing limerick poem.

First we had to sit on the mat because some of us didn’t know what limerick was.

Then we had to go and make google sildes ands we there was word that had syllabes and a easy way to find how to sound out the word you just have to clap  how much syllabes that are there. like money and honey they both got ey at the end.

After we had to make a google doc about telling syllabes like example of what a syllable is.
